How to troubleshoot an Outlaws of the Old West server that will not start

A failed start is usually caused by an incomplete update, an invalid configuration edit, damaged save data or the service exceeding its available memory. Work through one change at a time.

  1. Open Log Viewer and note the first error from the latest start attempt.
  2. Check Current Activity & Stats for a task that is still running.
  3. If the game was just updated, stop the service and run Steam Update once.
  4. Undo the most recent configuration or file change. Restore a known working backup if the affected file is unclear.
  5. Start the service and wait before making another change.

Do not repeatedly press Start while an update or restore task is active. When opening a support ticket, include the start time, the first relevant log error and what changed immediately before the problem began.
