When you've spent a long time playing Hytale, the last thing you want is to loose your progress because of an update error or maybe you've died and can't get it back. Well, that's what backups are perfect for, restoring to a point where all is well in your Hytale Server.
We make doing backups simple, simply follow the steps below. Keep in mind, as standard our Hytale Server Hosting sets up an automatic daily backup for you, so you may already have some.
First, you'll want to go to the server you wish to backup. Then click on the backup tab at the top of the screen as show.
Next, you'll want to click that big blue Create Backup button!
Now you'll see a popup box appear with a few fields. The first is the name of the backup, which is a reference for yourself.
We have a box called ignored files / directories which is an advanced feature that lets you say what not to include, for example you might have a secrets.yml file that shouldn't be in every backup. Simply enter secrets.yml in the box and backup will not include it. This works for folders, files, and with asterisks for wildcards such as *.yml which excludes all yml files.
Finally, the locked setting which is a way of preventing an accidently deletion of this backup. Locking the backup also prevents it being purged/overwritten if you run out of backup slots.
Once everything is set how you want, click the start backup button.
Depending on the size of your server, the backup could take a while. Once completed, you've now got a backup that you can easily restore to if you need to.
If you need more backup slots, you can upgrade anytime in the client area. By default most servers we offer come with 5 backup slots, once full, the oldest one will overwrite (unless locked). With our standard daily backup, this gives you 5 days worth of backups that you can restore to.
