Choosing the right amount of RAM for a Hytale server depends on what the server is doing. A small private world with a few friends will not need the same plan as a public server with a larger view radius, lots of explored world data, and mods.

These recommendations are a sensible starting point. If your server starts crashing, players get disconnected when joining, or the console shows memory errors, it is time to move up a plan.

Server type Recommended RAM Best for
Small private server 2GB - 4GB A few friends, mostly vanilla settings, lower player counts.
Regular group server 4GB - 6GB Small communities, more active players, normal exploration and world use.
Larger community server 6GB - 8GB More players online at once, bigger explored worlds, higher activity.
Modded or public server 8GB+ Mods, large view radius, busy public servers, or servers expected to grow.

If you are not sure what to pick, 4GB is usually the safer starting point for a small group. You can then upgrade later if your player count grows or you start adding heavier settings.

What affects RAM usage?

Player count is the obvious one. More players means more loaded areas, more entities, more inventory data, and more activity for the server to keep track of.

View radius also matters. A higher view radius makes the world feel better for players, but it asks the server to keep more of the world active at once. If the server is struggling, lowering view radius is often one of the first things to try before moving to a larger plan.

Mods can increase RAM usage a lot, especially if they add new systems, world generation, mobs, items, or background tasks. If you are planning to run a modded Hytale server, give yourself more headroom from the start.

World age can matter too. A fresh world is normally easier to run than a long-running world with lots of explored areas, player data, builds, and activity.

When should you upgrade?

You should consider upgrading if the server crashes with memory errors, stops responding when several players join, or starts struggling after the world has been explored for a while.

It is also worth upgrading before increasing the max player count heavily. Raising the player limit without enough RAM can make the server unstable once people actually start joining.

More RAM will not fix every type of lag. If the server is CPU-bound, badly configured, or running a very high view radius, you may still need to adjust settings. But if the issue is memory pressure, a RAM upgrade is the right fix.

If you are unsure which plan fits your Hytale server, open a ticket with the player count, whether you are using mods, and what kind of server you want to run. We can point you at a sensible starting size.
