Changing the name of your Sunkenland Server

Adjusting the name of your Sunkenland server hosting is a straightforward process that can significantly impact the identity and recognition of your server within the community. Whether you're rebranding or just in the mood for something new, this guide will walk you through the steps to rename your server's active world, ensuring a smooth transition.

  1. Access File Management

    • Start by accessing the file manager provided in your server's control panel, or connect directly via FTP. Both methods will allow you to navigate through the server's directories and files.

  2. Navigate to the World Saves

    • Within the file manager or FTP client, browse to the /saves/Worlds/ directory. This folder contains the save files for all the worlds on your server.

  3. Identify the Active World File

    • Determine the currently active world by matching the world GUID found in your server's command line with one in the file names located in /saves/Worlds/.

    • The active world file will be the one whose name contains a GUID matching the one specified in your server's startup command line.
  4. Rename the World File

    • Once you've identified the correct file, you're ready to rename it. Focus on changing the part of the file name that appears before the ~ symbol.
    • This portion of the name is what players will see as the server's host name in the game's server list.

    • For example, if the file is named LogicServers~f9cb9058-6722-457f-9f35-2e7d2bf37107, and you wish to change the name to DeepSeaAdventures, you would rename it to DeepSeaAdventures~f9cb9058-6722-457f-9f35-2e7d2bf37107.

Important Note: Ensure that you retain the ~ symbol and the GUID in the file name. The server relies on this format to properly load the world. Any deviation could result in the server not recognizing and loading the world correctly.

After you've renamed the file, the changes should take effect the next time you start your Sunkenland server. It's a good idea to restart your server to ensure that the new name is applied and visible to players looking to join.

Renaming your server can refresh your community's engagement and attract new players by better reflecting the unique experiences your server offers. Just make sure to inform your current players about the change to avoid any confusion.
