Remote Desktop is the normal way to manage a Windows VPS. It opens a desktop session so you can use Windows tools, File Explorer, PowerShell, and installed applications.

You need the VPS IP address, Windows username, and Windows password.

Connect from Windows

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Search for Remote Desktop Connection.
  3. Enter the VPS IP address.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Enter the Windows username and password.

Connect from macOS

  1. Install Microsoft Remote Desktop from the App Store.
  2. Add a new PC.
  3. Enter the VPS IP address.
  4. Save the connection and open it.
  5. Enter the Windows username and password.

Connect from Linux

Use an RDP client such as Remmina. Add a new RDP connection, enter the VPS IP address, username, and password, then connect.

If Remote Desktop does not connect

  • Check the VPS is powered on.
  • Check Windows has finished booting.
  • Confirm you are using the public VPS IP address.
  • Use the VPS console if Remote Desktop is blocked or Windows is still configuring updates.

For console recovery, use How to use the VPS console or VNC.
